In
the beginning of this organization evolved from me trying to
find other engineers of the 18th Brigade. I began my
search in the summer of 1998 with the help of Gene Kuentzler
of the 19th BN. Organization at Firebase Indy, started me
off with a list of engineers that had visited his reunion.
After
receiving his list of fellow engineers, I started contacting
these people, and since I had no computer at the this time,
William F. Smith of Heavener, OK, used his computer to
generate other people off of his list. After numerous
phone calls and thousands of postcards we now have over 600
members, and a reunion once a year in Kokomo,
Indiana.

April 2005 Updates Hello there everyone, I hate to bring bad news but at this time the founder, and life of this organization James Szabo, Sr. suddenly passed away. With talking with my mom, my sister, and myself, we want to take this organization and keep it alive in his memory. Not just for him but for all you guys who put a part of yourself here, All this started as a dream of my dad to find his buddies he had served with. He then thought about trying to be some help to everyone he could try to help, But his illness's took the life and the spirit out of him the past few years. He was a fighter and a bit sarcastic. But with the help he's had with my mom and my sister, me, and friends along the way. He was able keep himself going. Yet he tired easily and was doing less and less as his health declined. But he took this organization to heart. He so much wanted it to be known, respected, and yet be serving the guys who really made the 18th Engineer Brigade. If there was something we can do to help any of you guys, feel free to call, email, mail, or contact someone who will do it on your behalf. As we told you in the past few newsletters. I have started to try to make some changes here online, and with Donna our Webmaster. I have learned a little bit to make some of the day to day changes. But she is my hidden hands, and greatest asset to this side of it. With my dads passing I want to continue this dream of his. He served his country when they needed him. He given me so much along away. In the past ten years I have been a lot of his arms and legs to do things around the house. I was rewarded with his spirit and life. As I he and I worked together on this organization, and just things in general I have shown him we can make this simple little dream make it be seen, and proud. As the guys who joined this organization in the past, I want it to help make it far better. He passed away at the age of 57, leaves behind my mom, my sister, and myself. He's got 2 grand kids, and another on the way. We may need some help and looking for anyone who can add to this. I am going to be spending many of hours in the evening with my sister online, on the phone to create a database, contact base, and in some way a library on the many of terminology, and the future the soldiers of today are facing, and life today as a Combat Engineer. Once again you're all great men and women who served well, and I cherish helping you. Thanks Jim Szabo, Jr.
January 2005 Updates Look for a new Newsletter the beginning of 2005. Also look for some new changes coming to the website. There will be updates with the reactivation and any articles I find or others find, I will post links to the articles, and or I will get permission to reprint them, and to have these links for the troops, Like everyone knows, they troops look forward to hearing from home, and people who have them on their minds and prayers Please note we were contacted George R McDonald, who was on our Memorial page. We have removed him from the listing that he has NOT passed away. Sorry for the delays in getting him taken off, but I am glad to have taken off one of our fellow comrades. Plus if their is anything you guys want to have added into the website, news letter, or others to know, feel free to share. Sorry to everyone who's not been contacted, or who has tried to make contact. With the new year, I have taken over most of the duties with the website, and helping my father with this organization Thanks Jim Szabo, Jr. |
